Mid-Winter Interclub SwapFest in Brookfield, WI

by k9am on February 18, 2013

Greg – K9QI, David and I traveled up to Wisconsin this past weekend, on Saturday, 16 February.

David and K9QI - Greg

The ‘fest was held behind the  the PBS resale shop in a warehouse area and took up about half of the available space. We walked through several times and spent about one hour there.

Items purchased: Greg bought some tubes, some of which I had never seen before, such as four diodes in a nine-pin miniature enclosure. Neat!

I finally picked up a small Tektronix roll around o’scope cart for a dirt cheap price. I told the vendor ham that I thought that $25 was waaaay too much and he smiled and agreed with me. Nice guy! I’ll add an image of the cart when David gets finished cleaning it up. I told him to polish it up with the Carnuba car wax in the garage but I doubt if he will do it…

Lies overheard: “This here radio was used only by a little old lady to listen to the BBC foreign service broadcasts on Sunday afternoons”. But I like it!

Rating: 4 of 5. I happen to like these small ‘fests as a way to pick up small items needed without adding to the debt load on my credit card. Plus meeting interesting characters. We will probably return next year, if gas prices are reasonable.

And, of course, since this place was near Milwaukee and was a PBS run facility, the sign greeting everyone was not “Welcome” or “Nice to see you stopping by” but a stern warning of, ”No Weapons Of Any Kind Allowed.” with the de rigueur red circle and slash through images of a knife and gun. Nice.

On the way back down to “The Peoples’ Democratic Republic Of Illinois” we stopped at the Open Flame restaurant in Hales Corners for a very scrumptious late breakfast, served to us by Rachel the outstanding waitress. David thinks that the Eggs Benedicts there are divine and would forgo a week’s allowance just to dine there. Smart kid.

Sounds like fun. Also quick note to let you know I added a second layer of shields to the site so hopefully that amount of SPAM comments you see should drop. I thought I’d already installed it on here…
